Harajuku Station is a shopping district in Tokyo, Japan, and is considered a fashion capitol of the world with regard to street clothes. The world-famous clothing fashion common to the area has taken the name Harajuku, which is a synergistic blend of different styles
The shopping district became a popular hangout for teens and young adults after the 1964 Olympics and that’s when the blend of different fashions came into play. The young people began to mix their clothing styles to include traditional dress such as the kimono with their everyday ‘Western style” street clothes and more. The term “Harajuku Girls” (and Boys) came to describe the young adults who picked up on the fashion. Although the style peaked in the 1990s, music star Gwen Stefani made the world aware of Harajuku Fashion when she adopted some of its facets
Harajuku Fashion is made up of several completely different styles. Each style involves hair, makeup, and accessories unique to that style. Much of the styles are female-oriented, bus sometimes gender “barriers” are crossed-for example, some of the Harajuku Boys wear high heel shoes.
